My mother, who passed away a couple of years ago, was a mystery fan.  Before the brutal eye disease macular degeneration robbed her of her vision her favorite detective was TVs 'Columbo'.  After introducing her to CCRMT it was imperative that I have an episode always on hand during our many cars trips.

She often had a difficult time deciding who her new favorite character was.  One episode it might be the formidable Captain Underhill and the next her heart belonged to the good Doctor.  One thing I can say with certainty is that her most requested case was "The Queen is in the Counting House."  It was undoubtedly because as a 'long suffering Chicago Cubs fan' the baseball plot caught her fancy.

I am please to own every available "Underhill" and "Tales of Suspense" episode and look forward to each new release.  Thank you for the timeless, quality entertainment provided by Cape Cod Radio Mystery!

My family would take long summer vacations driving across the country and we would listen to these mysteries on tape. I know this may sound weird but as the time has past I have acquired all of the old mysteries on tape and everytime I listen to them they take me back to those long rides in the minivan across country. Thanks for producing such great mysteries.

. . . There is nothing better in the audio industry than Cape Cod Radio Mystery Theatre!!!!

Dear CCRMT,

I just received and heard the 28th episode of your great show.  I collect the shows from the golden age of radio, and I'm a huge fan of radio drama.  Your recent installment of Captain Underhill had my heart pounding.  I've never been on the edge of my seat until I heard "Don't Touch That Dial".

I just wanted to say thank you.

I only have the last few episode's of your show, but I can see I'm going to have to get my hands on the earlier episode's.  As one of your newer fans I'd also like to say one word to the creators:

MORE!

Jane M. writes:

". . . Her birthday has passed but she's expecting a package in the mail from me as I told her I located the perfect birthday surprise.  This way we can spread the celebration out for a longer period of time.  (She lives in Portland, Oregon).  Our family tradition is to work together in the kitchen and listen to the Cape Cods.  At Christmas, we went through our entire library as we did our holiday baking and preparations for our annual Christmas eve open house!  Having new ones won't diminish our enjoyment of the old ones --especially Curse of the Whale's Tooth and the one with the delivery guy who wears "muddly brown."

Andrew E. writes:

"When I was ten years old, my mother introduced me to The Shadow, Inner Sanctum and several other old radio shows.  I was enthralled; borrowed them from the local library, asked for them for Christmas, etc.  Despite my age, I was brought up on media that predated me for almost forty or fifty years.  One day when I was fifteen, I again wandered into the local library and found episodes of this show called CAPE COD RADIO MYSTERY THEATER.

It screamed my name in a way I'll never forget. I borrowed the tapes, copied them and threw them into my ever-growing collection of radio shows (I have over 600).  What I loved about CCRMT was that it was new, modern, and still had the same suspenseful, cutting edge of the old shows.  I convinced an at-the-time girlfriend (who worked in a bookstore) to buy all of the episodes.  When we broke up, as we divided our 'Mutual possession", I took them.  I kept buying and listening until the seventh volume.  Waiting impatiently for more new episodes, but never heard from CCRMT again.

I am now twenty-three years old.  CCMRT inspired me to write and produce and episode of my own radio show.  I assembled a crew of my friends, pulled out my Tascam 4-track, bought a microphone, set up shop in the small closet underneath the stairs (we lived in the basement back then) and went to work.  We never finished the show, of course, and I eventually moved from writing radio to writing a mystery novel.  But this is unimportant.

What IS important, is that about twenty minutes ago, I performed a random check on my computer, and found a CCRMT web site.  My heart started pounding like something was wrong.  But something was quite right.  I was more excited to see this web site up and running than to see my girlfriend!  All of a sudden, I'm fifteen again!

Anyway, just to wrap all this up.  I have been a huge fan of CCRMT for eight long years.  And I have loved each and every single episode of this show which has infinitely inspired my own mystery work.  I listen to them every night before I go to sleep (which freaked out my girlfriend in the beginning, but she's gotten used to them now), and am wholly excited to see new episodes on the board.  All of which I will purchase, you know.

In short, I just want to thank all of you for everything you have done and produced.  It is absolutely wonderful, wonderful work, and I look forward to hearing new episodes (and checking out new additions to the web site) as they come.  Thank you and keep up the great work.  I'll be the first to join the fan club.

Wally O'Hara writes:

"You are going to love this!  I went in to Barnes and Noble in the Mall to get a Cook book for Ruth for Christmas.  The store has people wandering around among the bookshelves to help dummies like me who have trouble finding the book they are looking for.  A nice lady came up to me and asked if she could help.  I said this . . . and only this//"I am looking for a cook book called the 'Silver Palate'.  She found it for me and walked away.  I sat at a table to look through the book and after a few minutes she came back to me and asked, "Are you a member of the Cape Cod Mystery Theater?"  "I am" sez me.  Sez she, "I thought I recognized your voice. . . You play Dr. Scofield don't you?"  "I do" sez me.

Well, we had a fine old chat when I shifted out of the monosyllabic mode.  This is what I learned:  She is from Ireland and speaks several languages and sometimes works as an interpreter in court cases.  She lives on the Cape in the summer and goes to visit her family in Spain every winter.  Spain, because that's where her Irish family goes in the winter, much as many Americans go to Florida in the winter.  She is a great fan of the Mystery Theater and has most, if not all the tapes and her collection goes back to Uriah Pillar . . . if that is his name.  You recall that I have trouble remembering that my name is Dr. Schofield.    Small world Steve.  And to think I only spoke 8 or ten words to her.  But then being a linguist she is probably sensitive to voice and speech.

This little story should brighten your holiday spirit."

Mike C. writes:

"I am happy to say I have finally listened to all of your mysteries.  With the exception of the new ones on CD which I will purchase after the holidays.  I really enjoyed all of them.  The only one I did not really understand was THE HYPNOTIST. Every other one was great.  I especially enjoyed the suspenseful build up in MURDER FROM THE BRIDGE.  I think it was very clever.  You touched upon a fear of mine.  I HATE driving over the Bourne Bridge.  I remember one time our car broke down on it.  Being stranded on it was VERY scary and MURDER FROM THE BRIDGE brought those fears back to life.  I also was amazed that at the beginning of the show, you can hear the sound of the cars above you on the bridge.  It sounds SO AUTHENTIC!

I had to tell you how much I enjoyed them!  Have a wonderful Thanksgiving."

Hello.  I wanted to sincerely thank you for all your efforts to make sure my order was received in time for a special occasion.  It was very thoughtful of you and truly appreciated.  As I stated in my email, the Cape Cod Mystery's have been enjoyed and remembered fondly by my entire family.  I just wanted you to know that your programs were and will continue to be fun, and entertaining for all us.  My husband who passed away three years ago, was a very big fan of radio programs.  He collected many of them as they were a comfort and source of entertainment when he was a child in the 40's.  He was particularly fond of The Shodow, Inner Sanctum, The Whistler, I Love A Mystery, Johnny Dollar and many, many more.  Years ago, I took a chance and purchased a few sets of your cassettes for him.  He was quite fond of them.  Our family would often listen to them at night, when we would travel in our motor home and camp along the Oregon coast.  We weren't at Cape Cod, but we had the environment that made them even more fun.  It's hard not to get into things when you can hear the ocean surf quietly crashing out your window, while you play your favorite Cape Cod Mystery.  They were great then and I'm sure the cd's I have ordered will be a treat as well.  I hope to eventually purchase the entire set.  The Whales Tooth was such a favorite, that, my son, who was quite young at the time, purchased a mounted whales tooth from a shop along the coast that was beautifully carved.  He felt he had his own whale's tooth and always had it handy while listening to the program.  He still has it and cherishes the memories that the radio programs rekindle.  Again, many thanks for your thoughtfulness .  I look forward to ordering more in the future and keeping the joy alive.    Sincerely yours,

As Howard has stated, we all enjoyed the tapes and CD's so much.  Our 7 year old wouldn't even let us carry on conversations in the car, once one tape was done, he would beg until we put in another, the time passed quickly in the car, thank you!  My mom called today and asked if I had any books on tape for a long trip they're about to take, I said I had these fabulous mystery stories from some great people on Cape Cod.                                                                     Melissa

Must tell you my brief story.  About 16 summers ago, my 3 sisters and our gaggle of kids spent a long weekend at my sis's place in Hyannis.  After a long day we bathed said dozen kids, sent them to the basement recroom turned slumber party room, turned the lights low and put on the tape "Curse of the Whale's Tooth".  It was a big hit and gave us tired Moms a break.  Well, now my 23 year old son (then 7) who is summering in Eastham and is on their summer police force calls me to say he thinks he found the house from Whale's Tooth, the Peniman house in Eastham, as he was driving around in the cruiser.  That story must have made a big impression on him!  It really was/is a good one.  So now I'm off to meet up with him and get him a new recording of the old tape.  And pick up a few news ones too.

Hey, I just wanted to drop you a line to say thank you for all of the great shows. I'm twenty-three now (just turned twenty-three on December 30) and I've been listening to CCRMT since my mother gave me volume one on cassette for my fourteenth (maybe?) birthday. The tapes have been hard to find, but I've managed to collect volumes one through eight. It was because of CCRMT that I got into radio and I'll have been in radio for the past year come January 20th. Of course, I couldn't find a job in my native St. Louis, so I had to settle for a job in Cape Girardeau, at the very same station that Rush Limbaugh got his start at. I don't know if that's good or bad, but it explains why the chair's broken. Anyway, Cape Girardeau is about 100 miles south of St. Louis, so when I go back to St. Louis for the weekend (which equals about twice a month), I bring my CCRMT tapes, because the two-hour drive is just long enough to listen to two short shows, or one long one. It's always a good drive.

I really, really enjoy radio mystery theatre, and especially the ones you create with natural history or culture which provide a learning opportunity as well as shivery thrills. John Stead in 'Whirlpool' was also my favorite narrator in my top favorite story. I observe you make a balance of this type, including cultural mysteries (Purloined Letter), and the really scary thrillers, so it isn't necessary to ask for more, since it is important to share, but thank you for having a balance.

Please release all the casettes as CDs, and please just continue this innovative series. I'm from California, and love the history, biology and geography (as well as hydrodynamics) of Cape Cod. And yes, I DO want to visit!

Jimmy F. writes:

I want to say how much I enjoy listening to Cape Cod Radio Mystery Theater on tape.  The first time I listened to one of the episodes was back in the summer of 1989.  My mother, for her birthday, got a bunch of classic radio shows on cassette.  I don't think she ever listened to them, but I was sort of curious about what they were like.  I was twelve years old at that time and I sort of thought that they might be boring to listen to.  After all, I did grow up watching T.V., playing with my friends and playing video games.  But yet, I was still curious about the tapes.

Finally I went into my parents' room one night and took the tapes to my room.  On the tapes were classic radio shows like:  The Green Hornet, Screen Director's Playhouse, Sherlock Holmes and of course Cape Cod Radio Mystery Theater.  The episode was called "Playback" which was perfect for me since I have an interest in acting and tape recordings.  I remember putting the tape in and listening to the episode and loved it!  I thought the story was well written and very interesting that a psychopath would actually tape record his murders.  The people that worked on it did a very good job with it.

As a kid listening to the tape, I always wondered what the actors looked like.  Especially Kevin Groppe who played the killer.  Every time I would hear Kevin Groppe perform on the tape, I kept picturing an African American woman or Michael Jackson.  LOL!!  (I know that his character was disguising his voice but I always thought it was pretty interesting.)

I used to listen to the tape over and over again until I finally lost the tape due to moving.  I recently found the tape "Playback" with two other episodes "A Test for Murder" and "Caller on Line One" at the library and took it home.  (Kevin Groppe used the same voice in "Caller").  Well, I listened to "Playback" and fell in love with it again.  I went online last night and googled CCRMT.

If you don't mind me asking, who started this program and how many years has it been?

Also, what hasKevin Groppe been up to these days?

Trevor P. writes:

Hi there, Let me preface this message by saying that I have wanted to congratulate you guys for almost 20 years. Your consistent insistence on providing
an authentic quality modern drama for the ears has inspired me. I suppose that I should introduce myself. My name is Trevor and I am in my early 30's. I
live in St. Louis Missouri though I was born and raised in Michigan. My introduction to your program came at a critical juncture in my life. I remember
it as if it were yesterday. Allow me to step back in time for a moment
in order to illuminate my mood and the proceedings involved. I was 13 years old on that chilly Christmas day as my family traveled to Wisconsin to visit
my grandparents. I was anticipating the gifts that would be opened once we arrived. Usually they were known for giving warm sweaters or afghan blankets.
These were certainly wonderful presents. Yet they normally don't represent the pinnacle of a young teen's idea of the greatest thing on Earth. Still, I
did wonder about it especially since my mom had told me that it just might be a little different this year. As we pulled up in their driveway, my anticipation
seemed to grow though I wasn't sure of the cause. Hugs were exchanged as we all unfolded ourselves from the van. Grandma and grandpa were glad to see us
and ushered us inside. After a sumptuous meal of Turkey with all of the trimmings, the gift exchange began. I was handed a box which seemed a little heavier
than usual. I was confused as to what might be inside. Upon tearing the wrapping paper, I found a collection of cassettes neatly packaged in an attractive
album. I have always loved radio drama ever since my early childhood. I can well remember listening to episodes of The Shadow and Suspense while trying
to hide my tape recorder from my parents after bedtime. Radio has always been very important to me. I think this is true due to my total blindness from
birth. My inability to use visual images from television or movies has shown me a way of painting pictures with sound. When listening to an audio reenactment
of a popular story or play, I am at one with my sighted peers. My grandparents knew this about me and found a way to fill that need. I was told that this
was a series of shows called the Cape Cod Radio Mystery Theater. I had never heard of it. I had certainly listened to the CBS Radio Mystery theater hosted
by E G Martial when I was younger. Still this show seemed new and crisp with it's fresh approach to audible stories. Still, I was skeptical. Upon escaping
to a private corner of the house, I reluctantly put the first tape into the recorder. From that moment, I was transported!! The fidelity with which these
programs were made was only the least of my pleasures. Also the care you took in selecting the actors for these roles showed as they stood on the stage
of my mind. Waverly Underhill's mysteries as well as the Hypnotist and The Caller on Line 1 awoke in me a thrill that I've never been able to duplicate
since. From that moment onward, my love of your program has been unbounded. Yet I have never been able to find any of your other shows since. I would love
to get my hands on your complete catalog if possible. You have also inspired me to want to get involved in preserving this wonderful type of show.

Hello. Would this reach Stephen Russell!. I don't know if this will reach. Stephen. I have been listening with fascination to some Audio file someone linked me to. Cape cod Radio Mystery Theatre. I have loved listening to the snippetts! I live in England and have not been able to find any before now. I just love all your voices. Ever since my love of Thief began. I love the Theatre too although Not acting. It looks truly wonderful In that part of America. We still nearly all go on to the Thief forums regularly and all the fan made missions. Will there never be anymore?? I have just listened to ' The Whirlpool' I just loved it. I can of course unfortunately only hear a snippet. I loved the voice you did for it The voices you can do are amazing to me. I so loved, all the Thief Series. Garrett and Karrass. Garrett 'Oh Yeah He's gone' . Then the Guard may christened 'Benny' the rather daft funny one.. It was not your voice was it?. I don't know

I have been listening to your shows since I was 20.... that was 17 years ago. Some of the tapes I have had to replace many times over from playing them so much! (Thank goodness for CDs!) Thanks you for many years of enjoyment!

The radio shows that have been produced by the Cape Cod Radio Mystery gang are just outstanding.  I have spent many hours listening to them both at work and home.  For all the Old Time Radio Shows that I have collected over the years, the Cape Cod Mysterys are one of my favorites.  Again, great job by all the gang, looking forward to the next adventures of Captain Underhill and Dr. Scofield.

I received my set of CCRMT shows last week. I was very touched by the hand written note that was with them. I have been enjoying my time in the car so much because of the shows. Thanks for being there. Old radio is my hobby, but CCRMT takes it to a new level.

Favorite line:  'Who do?' 'You do!' 'Voodoo' -- in Automatic Murders?  Also,  references to previous episodes, as when Underhill reminds Scofield of 'his admiration' for the lady in the 'Heidi McKnown' episode leading to his suspension of good judgment.

I like these kind of subtle references to
earlier episodes, as it gives more depth to the relationships of characters
and also is a pleasure for the long-time follower of the adventures of
Waverly and Dr. Scofield

FavCharacter: Underhill and Scofield equally--the relationship between the two is what adds enormous human interest to the series!

Sequel: 'The Whirlpool.' Perhaps my favorite episode, as it was the first
one I heard. 'Murdering Dickens' would be a close second, as I think it
would be an unusual challenge to write a sequel to this in keeping with the spirit of the series!
